Special Education Instructor
Special education instructors are educators who have received specialized training to support children with ASD and other learning challenges. They possess a variety of skills that address developmental, cognitive, physical, and emotional issues that children with autism may face.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapist
ABA therapy is considered the most effective method for treating autism spectrum disorder and its associated conditions. ABA therapists are experts in behavioral psychology, primarily working with children on the autism spectrum. These professionals are often board-certified behavior analysts (BCBA).
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Consultant
ASD consultants perform duties similar to those of ABA therapists. However, their role focuses on working closely with an individual client and collaborating with the therapy team to manage daily tasks. This includes meeting educational goals, fostering social behaviors, and enhancing self-care skills.
Occupational Therapist with ASD Focus
Occupational therapists assist a wide range of individuals in becoming more self-sufficient. Those specializing in ASD help individuals on the autism spectrum improve their daily functioning and quality of life.
Social Worker
Social workers are responsible for supporting individuals and families through challenging situations. Some specialize in helping children navigate autism spectrum disorder and provide emotional and practical support.
Speech and Language Pathologist
Many children with ASD struggle with communication and language development. Speech-language pathologists work with these children to find alternative methods of communication, which may not always involve verbal speech.
Child Developmental Psychologist
Developmental psychologists work in various environments, such as clinics, schools, and hospitals. They assess children with autism spectrum disorder and collaborate with therapy teams to create treatment plans, interventions, and coping strategies tailored to each child’s needs.
Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)
This is a common entry-level position in the field, focusing on implementing ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) techniques under the supervision of a BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst).
Job Coaching
Some positions focus on helping individuals with autism transition to and maintain employment.
