Browsing for Books

Looking for print books and prefer to browse the shelves? CSCC Library uses the Library of Congress Classification (LCC) system to organize our books. The LCC system uses multiple layers of subject categories, as well as author information, and codes the information with letters and numbers. For more information, take a look at the Library of Congress Classification Outline.

  • Civil Engineering: Most books about civil engineering are in the TA section. One example is TA170 .M36 2010 (Environmental Engineering: Designing a Sustainable Future by A. E. Maczulak)
  • Mechanical Engineering: Most books about mechanical engineering are in the TJ section. One example is TJ163.2 .O3835 2007 (Environment, Power, and Society for the Twenty-First Century: The Hierarchy of Energy by H. T. Odum)
